EPILOGUE

J. Jonah Jameson slammed the latest edition of the Daily Bugle down onto his desk. A bunch of freshly cut flowers on the desk shook in their vase.

“Spider-Man!” he blustered at Robbie Robertson. “I just don’t get it. First the town thinks he’s trash, now he’s a glam-or boy!”

“He’s a hero, boss,” Robbie replied.

“Don’t give me that line again, Robbie!” Jameson shouted.

“I don’t trust heroes. They’re nothing but criminals in disguise.”

Robbie shook his head and smiled. There simply was no arguing with Jameson, especially about Spider-Man.

“Where’s Parker?” Jameson asked gruffly.

“He just left,” Robbie explained. “He went to cover the hostage story.”

“Sure!” Jameson cried. “Another hostage story. But where was he when the Green Goblin busted through my window?

We had the Green Goblin and Spider-Man right in front of our noses. A golden opportunity, and where’s my photographer—out to lunch!”

A young editor walked into Jameson’s office carrying a pair of pants.

“What’s that?” Jameson demanded.

“Peter Parker’s pants, sir,” the young man replied. “They were in the closet, along with his shirt, tie, shoes, and socks.”

“Who does he think he is, Tarzan?” Jameson shouted.

“What is he doing, running around the town naked? And who put flowers on my desk?”

“I did, sir,” replied Jameson’s secretary, Betty Brant, from the next office. “It’s your birthday. Happy birthday, sir.”

“What are you looking for, Betty, a raise?” Jameson grumbled. “I don’t want flowers, I want Peter Parker. And I don’t want his pants, I want his photos. I want to sell papers! I want Spider-Man!”
